Abacus Logistics puts first new generation MAN TGX on the road

Southampton-based road freight services provider Abacus Logistics Ltd has recently taken delivery of the first New Generation MAN TGX tractor unit to be handed over in the UK.

The 44-tonne TGX 6×2, 26.510 tractor, in brilliant Traffic White with Abacus’ distinctive A-roadway design livery, features the New Generation flagship GX cab.

It has also been specc’d with a range of safety aids including ESP, EBA, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-Go, MAN’s advanced Lane Departure warning system and LED cornering lights. In the cab there is MAN comfort steering, MAN advanced Media System including satellite navigation, a multi-function steering wheel, electric glass sunroof and MAN’s SmartSelect truck-optimised Infotainment control. The truck also has Drua-Bright aluminium wheels.

Powered by the latest generation MAN Euro6D D26, 12.4 litre, 510 hp, six-cylinder engine, which deliverers 2,600 Nm from 930 rpm, the New Generation TGX features a new low friction drive axle which, through its long axle drive ratio, helps optimise fuel-efficiency to the tune of an 8% saving when compared to previous Euro6C drivetrain.

All vehicles have GPS tracking systems which delivers accurate information to customers about their goods location and delivery status.

Peter Carr, CEO of Abacus Logistics Ltd, said it was “a great honour” for the company to be chosen as the first UK operator to take delivery of the new generation MAN truck. “We have a long and established relationship with MAN and this new flagship will join our existing fleet of 35 44-tonne vehicles.”

Abacus Logistics’ New MAN TGX will be joined by five other new MAN tractors delivering imported containerised goods and palletised products across the UK and collecting customer consignments for export through the Hampshire port.

“Safety, driver comfort and fuel efficiency are all major consideration factors when we look at purchasing new vehicles,” said Carr. “We need to ensure that do all we can to protect both our drivers throughout their working days and at the same time other vulnerable road users. High levels of comfort help ensure our drivers are both happy and productive during their day, and as fuel amounts to around 30% of total vehicle running costs, having an efficient and clean vehicle is paramount. We feel we have addressed all of these needs with MAN.

“We’re looking forward to both handing this new vehicle over to our driver, who is very excited to be handed the keys to the first new generation TGX in the UK and seeing the telematics feedback which will I’m sure support MAN’s 8% mpg improvement.”
