Distribution specialist DR Macleod has put ten new Volvo FH tractor units into operation, replacing a similar group of FH tractor units on three-year contract hire.
All ten of the FH 6×2 mid-lift tractor units feature Volvo’s D13K engines rated at 500hp, coupled to I-Shift automated gearboxes. The Globetrotter cabs are specified with full leather interiors as well as Volvo Drive+ and Living Packages.
The trucks will be used on a combination of long-distance haulage and inter-depot trunks. They will be equipped with 490-litre fuel tanks and 100-litre AdBlue reservoirs.
Seven vehicles will be based at DR Macleod’s Inverness depot, with the remaining three to be kept at the company’s Glasgow hub.
Financed on another contract hire arrangement, the deal includes a Volvo Gold Service contract. The vehicles are expected to average about 180,000km per year.
DR Macleod has been a Volvo Trucks customer for over three decades, having operated the first Volvo FH 6×2 tractor unit in northern Scotland to be equipped with air suspension.
DR Macleod’s managing director, “DR” himself, explains how “since then we’ve operated every version of the Volvo FH, including the special 70th and 80th anniversary editions.
“Despite our headquarters in Stornoway being a 57-mile road journey and a two and a half hour ferry trip from our nearest Volvo trucks dealer point in Inverness, their sales staff have always been regular visitors here.”
