Order books open for new Volvo truck range

Volvo Trucks dealers in UK and Ireland are now taking orders for the company’s new generation of heavy commercial vehicles, which were launched in February.

The Volvo FH16, Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX benefit from a new, flexible user interface with a digital instrument panel, whilst the FM and FMX models have new cabs that give the driver more space and improved direct vision.

The new models were launched in February, just before the coronavirus pandemic struck. All models have been significantly revised and upgraded. You can read the full story from the launch here.

For instance, the interior volume of the FM and FMX has been increased by up to one cubic metre, providing better comfort and more working room. The visibility has been improved with larger windows, a lowered door line and new mirrors.

Meanwhile, the Volvo FH and FH16 feature an improved Adaptive Cruise Control for speeds down to zero km/h and descent control that automatically activates the wheel brakes when extra brake force is needed to maintain constant downhill speed. The Electronically controlled Brake System, which is a prerequisite for safety features such as Collision Warning with Emergency Brake and Electronic Stability Control, now comes as standard.

In terms of engines, as well as Euro 6 D13TC turbo compound diesel engines, the Volvo FH and Volvo FM are available with the Euro 6 compliant gas-powered LNG engine that can run on either biogas, which cuts CO2 by up to 100%, or natural gas, which reduces CO2 emissions by up to 20% when compared with Volvo’s equivalent diesel trucks.

“With these new models, we’re introducing the strongest heavy truck line-up in our history,” said Hannah Burgess, Director of New Vehicle Sales, Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland. “We’ve taken classic Volvo characteristics such as ergonomics, comfort and safety and combined them with smart new technology and design, to make the driving environment even more attractive and productive –bringing significant advantages for both drivers and transport companies alike.”
